Overview
Students learn the relationship between power and authority, and gain perspective by studying situations in which there is an absence or misuse of authority. They examine ways to deal with such situations wisely and effectively while acquiring the knowledge and skills to make informed and reasoned decisions about evaluating or developing rules and laws. Limits on authority are seen as essential to the protection of individual rights. Understanding the reason for and necessity of placing limits on authority is essential if citizens are to control their government and make sure that government fulfills its purpose.
